June 2011 Mountain Community Newsletter
Hi everyone,
June 1, and it's raining; colder here than in Anchorage...it's amazing, when you live in a rural area, how much the weather affects things. It's not just events, but people's jobs...as farmers, my husband and I are watching our income drip away with every rain drop; loggers and everyone associated with them can't get in to work where the roads are too wet; road crews can't start summer repairs, and tourists aren't passing through to spend their money. Arrrggghhhh! Tough times--so take advantage of some of the good things to do, locally.
Do a little dance for sunshine on this Saturday, with the big community flea market at the Mountain Community Center, as well as in Oak Run! Surely, the sun will be out for the Chili Cook-Off at the Station Cafe on Sat., the 18th? Support the teens who are going to walk in the Relay for Life on Sat.-Sun. 6/11-12 (hopefully, under clear skies), and take joy in all the great music and public affairs programs that are going to come your way on our communities' new radio station,
KKRN 88.5 FM, when it goes on the air June 28th! Watch for upcoming info. on the Father's Day dinner at the MCC, and cheer for the Mountain Union School District, which is getting an expanded Pre-K program and new playground stuff.
The calendar is still taking a break this month--if you need info. on the regular meetings of such worthy groups as the VFW, Up-Country Seniors, Mountain Lions, etc., go to www.acornshasta.org, and access the issues from March or April to check on the times.
Thanks for everyone's support to re-fill the Emergency Food Program shelves! And meanwhile, just keep trying to find silver linings in all these clouds.
