August 2011 Mountain Community Newsletter
Hi everyone,
There's a great, free workshop coming up on August 11, kind of "Computers and all the "smart" technologies for Dummies," (not that any of you are Dummies!), aimed at people who do have a computer and use it for some things, but really want to learn more about some of the general issues: security, what's the deal with "smart phones" and "tablets," and do I really need to know about social networking? Space is limited, so please RSVP to me asap if you're interested.
Don't forget the Lions Yard Sale on the weekend of the 13-14th, and just in time for back-to-school, the Mountain Union School District has lots of good news about various grants, new teachers, etc.
It didn't make it into the newsletter, but you may want to mark your calendar for the Whitmore Community Picnic at KILARC Resevoir, Sunday, August 21, noon to dusk. You can go to
www.savekilarc.org for directions, etc. Help save KILARC!
I hope everyone is finding some time to tune into KKRN, 88.5 FM, our new community radio station. There have been an amazing number of small technological problems to get ironed out, so there have been some schedule changes and--sorry!--some dead air moments, but there is also a lot of great stuff getting aired, and more to come. If you have any interest in radio and have open time in your schedule where you could make a solid commitment to helping the station, please feel free to contact Staci Wadley, at 337-1101 or 337-6736. We're also very, very happy to receive your donations--you can learn more at the
www.kkrn.org website.
Have a great August--maybe we mountain folk will finally see some tomatoes ripening!
